Date Night

10 Nov

It’s been a long time coming.  Part of me thought it would never happen again.  But tonight we finally did it.

It used to be a ritual for us.  Something we looked forward to after a long week of work.

We’d feed the kids, give them their baths, tuck them into bed, then sneak off to the kitchen to gather our necessary materials.

Armed with our goodies, we’d curl up on the couch, turn out the lights and crawl under the covers.  Hubby would take control and the fun would begin.  We’d find ourselves sometimes giggling, sometimes crying, sometimes bored.

But no matter how things went one week, we’d always do it again the next.

That is, until I began my hotel job.

Then everything changed.  I found myself working on the weekends.  I worked late shifts, getting home well after hubby went to bed.  Other times I would work the early shift, and have to go to bed well before hubby was tired.

All of this put a damper on our “date” night.

But tonight…  tonight was almost like the old days.

Except Chip was in the room.

Surprisingly this made it even more enjoyable.  The three of us cozied up on the couch, each of us with our respective treats, and at 6:30 sharp, we hit play.

And for the next few hours we laughed and cringed and rolled our eyes at Will Ferrell as he campaigned for his seat in Congress.

I went to bed with a smile on my face.    It was nice to spend an evening vegging out with the family (well, part of the family) as opposed to vegging out near the family.

Funny how there’s a difference between sitting in the same room with our noses buried in individual screens, and sitting in the same room in front of a shared screen.

I liked it.  And I can’t wait to do it again.

    Nice. Glad you got some.
    … erm, family time.

I got me some last night too, but fell asleep in the middle of it (I don’t think they noticed!)

When I used to get it more often, I would fall asleep occasionally as well. Then wake up and ask what happened…

It was nice. I didn’t realize how much I missed it! And for it to fall on an actual Friday night made it even better!

Great way to enjoy some quality time. It gets harder to find that sort of family time with job and family obligations. Glad you hear you guys made time for each other. We don’t do that as often as we used to since our taste in movies has “evolved” over time

That’s a great way to put it…. our taste in movies has “evolved”. It’s tough to find a movie that we all WANT to see, and that we think may actually be good. The individual computers allow us to watch our own videos without making the other people suffer. But then we miss the “together” time.

Yay, date night!!! Sounds like a good time! And of course the preferred treat would have to be ice cream?!

Uh… Yeah! Always for me. The others will change it up occasionally.
