Left Behind

Look what we’re leaving behind.

We couldn’t have picked a better time to escape to Florida.  70’s and rain sounds so much nicer than 20s and snow.

Racing to get home. Ha.

Racing to get home. Ha.

This latest snow storm hit right when we were planning our great escape.  I had just finished 6 consecutive days of work, and had expected to ‘fly’ to the hairdresser for a quick touch up (I’ve heard grey hair isn’t allowed in Florida), and then ‘fly’ home to empty my closet into my suitcase.

Except I couldn’t exactly fly.  I crawled.  Slowly.

I arrived home much later than expected, and threw a mix of shorts, pants, and long and short sleeve shirts in the suitcase.  We laid down the law to the kids, dumped a bunch of gocery money on the counter and then high-tailed it out of there.  And by high-tailing, I really mean poking along at 30 mph.

Our intention was to make it to the airport hotel the night before our flight, pay the cheap employee rate for one night and be able to keep the car parked there for free while we were gone.  A great deal.  PLUS, if we got there by 7, we could enjoy the free drinks and hot food.  An even better deal!

Except the interstate was packed with snow.  And we arrived at the hotel at 7:01, stressed, hungry, and depressed about missing the free drinks.  We consoled ourselves at the BBQ restaurant just up the street.

Our luck changed the day we were scheduled to leave.  While many flights were cancelled or delayed, ours was right on time.

We arrived in sunny, hot, rainy, cool, Florida that afternoon.  Not quite the weather we were hoping for, but 68 degrees is 60 degrees warmer than what we left.

We’ll take it.

Whoo-hoo! You made it out! Don’t look back! Sunnier days are ahead. It sounds like an adventure to the start of your adventure. Well planned and executed (even if you missed the happy hour). I am sure you will be shivering in those chilly Florida temps out by the pool Try not to gloat (too much) for the kids.

Might we hope for some some sunny pictures? Another SUP adventure perhaps?

Sadly we may not see any sun while we are here. It’s been rainy and cool these past few days and tomorrow will likely be the same. So maybe no SUPn or sun tanning, but it’s literally 1 degree in our hometown right now so 60’s are feeling pretty good.
I feel a bit sorry for the kids. They’ve had two snow days since we left and Mario is bored out of her mind. Amps loving it though.
If the sun peaks out tomorrow I’ll be sure to share it. And I’ll catch you up on all the goings on very soon. Stay tuned…

Well I’m glad you made it!! Having had weeks and weeks of rain here in the UK I think at the moment I’d be happy to see some snow!

We are going to AZ in about weeks time and I have a feeling we won’t be seeing much sun either.

Enjoy the break whatever the weather!

We are absolutely enjoying the break from the snow and frigid cold temps. It’s difficult to stay positive when it’s gloomy and cool, but we know what we left behind. It’s 60 degrees warmer here! That’s incredible!
I’m thinking AZ won’t have near the rain you all are having….

YAY, you’re outta there! For once your weather and ours is in sync. Meego – almost happily? – went back to school today after two snow days in a row.
I hope the sun comes around to welcome you more properly! Still, 60’s?? Makes me almost cry. Photos!!

Our kids went back today after 2 snow days and now are off for the weekend. Poor things.
I know… I shouldn’t complain about 60s, when our weather back home was -6 this morning, but I can’t help but wish it was a little warmer.
I got photos coming…. grainy cell phone pics… only the best for you guys.

I know! It’s been cold EVERYWHERE…. Those are “cold temperatures” for Florida… we’ve been in the low thirties/high 20’s here… and we even got what people call “dippin’ dots” here… everybody was out trying to make “snowmen” LOL! quite funny because it wasn’t even the beautiful white snow people get up north… but at least it looked pretty over the roofs of the houses…. very cold weather for Texas! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing some “Florida Pics” 🙂

It’s all relative, that’s for sure.
Luckily we aren’t here to relax on the beach, so it hasn’t bothered us too much. The rain comes and goes, and at least we only need light jackets to feel comfortable.
      Dippin’ Dots. Funny! 🙂

For a moment I was worried that the planes were snowed in!

Hope the sun comes out soon…

We were worried too! I had my shovel just in case!
Not looking like we’ll see any sun while we’re here, but we’ve walked the beaches a couple of times… in jeans and a jacket. Still WAY better than what we left!

“And by high-tailing, I really mean poking along at 30 mph.”

That made me laugh out loud, for real.

“While many flights were cancelled or delayed, ours was right on time.”

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!

Hope you have a FABULOUS vacation!

I can’t tell you how bummed we would have been if our plane had been cancelled. Now if it had been cancelled on the way BACK, we would likely have been quite happy about it. 😉

Well… it didn’t get off to a promising start, but at least you got out. I’ve heard similar stories at work lately of people trying to escape the miserable weather for someplace warmer, only to find that winter is more extreme than usual almost everywhere right now. At least you got a little break with your hubby, but I’m sorry that sun and warmth weren’t waiting for you when you arrived.

Warmer is relative, right? That’s what we kept saying anyway… “At least it’s not 1.”
Sun and warmth would have been nice, but to be able to wear light jackets outside, and to RUN!, was a nice change.
