We Got Snow!

05 Jan

It’s so rare for us anymore to get snow during the winter.  It’s funny what a difference it makes in how I feel.

We’ve come to dread winter, mostly because all we see is gray skies, sleet, ice, or just very cold rain.   But the snow!  The snow makes it feel like a real winter.  I could sit inside all day and watch it.

2017 has started off pretty smoothly in the Shadowrun household.  Link came home for Christmas for just a few days, but those few days did my heart good.  I worry about him daily – he has many struggles – so to see him with my own eyes was comforting.

Chip and Amp are still on their winter break.  Chip braved a trip up to Chicago to visit friends.  Good to get him out of the basement and into the real world for a while.  Amp, split his time between our house and a friend’s house.  Perfect really, since our house isn’t meant to have more than 3 people in it at a time.

Mario sleeps at home, although not sure how she enters her room.  For someone who is never here, she sure creates a big mess.  In fact most times, it’s so big it spills into the hall.  But I love how active she is, and how fearless.  She’ll hop into the car and travel to St. Louis without a second thought.  Scares ME, but I love seeing her create her independence, and I feel comfortable knowing she’ll be able to take care of herself.  The boys…. I don’t feel so good about.

This’ll be the year where we could see some big changes.  Fingers crossed.

Mario graduates high school in the spring and will move away to college.  Chip and Amp will graduate from their tech school and will land a job and move out of the house completely.   Link will find ways to create happiness and brighten his future.

And I will land a job in Florida.

At least, these are the plans.  But I know better than to get my hopes up.

Until then, I’m going to enjoy this snow day snuggled up with a warm cup of coffee, and nestled between mounds of laundry.

Sounds like a great plan! Fun to think about, right?
I can picture the Mario mess, ha. Good for her!
I didn’t realize you guys don’t get much real snow to go with the grey and cold. Enjoy it before it’s gone.

We used to get lotsa snow. The kids would get new sleds every year, and there were always snow days to test them out. Nowadays school’s called off due to ice or freezing rain. None of it fun or beautiful. Oh, and what you see in the pic was all we got. :/

Hahaha! It all sounded SO wonderful … until the mounds of laundry appeared in the picture!

I know what you mean, though, about ALL of it… the beauty of fresh fallen snow, the comfort of having your kids nearby, the worries, the pride, the hopes … the daughter’s eternally messy bedroom!

So glad your year is off to a good start! Happy New Year!

Tell me the daughter will eventually live a non-messy lifestyle. Please?
You always have such great snow up there. I know you probably get tired of it, but if you gotta have a winter, it should at least be beautiful. Our winters are rarely beautiful anymore. This little bit of snow was a great treat.

Quite a mound of snow landed in central Virginia. I must admit that it is pretty. However, twice a year, and giving us an excuse to hibernate for only 2 days each time, is enough. Times when it is more is annoying.

You post seems to say that you were in a reflecting and pensive mood while writing it. Stemming from the new year perhaps? Which by the way, I wish you and your family well and that it all continues to flow in a positive direction. 🙂

Yeah, I know it would be annoying to get too much too often, but I still think it’s better than ice and freezing rain which is more typical for us. (Maybe even you too?)
I have big hopes for this year. There’s certainly going to be a lot of changes in all of our lives – I just hope they’re all for the good.
And Happy New Year to you. Good to see you again!

I forgot about freezing rain and ice, which we get, but not frequently. You’re right – I prefer the snow if we have to get one or the other. Our neighborhood roads are icy here and there today because the temp is 10 degrees, but tomorrow, it’ll melt when the 40s come back. Yay!

It sounds like you have many big changes this year, a little like we have in Joey land. I’m certainly not ready for some of them but am trying to stay positive. I hope the new year brings only good things to you and your family. Enjoy the snow!

We’re kinda in the same boat, aren’t we. Kids growing up and moving out, and lots of worry about whether they’ll be ok.
I hope the new year brings good things to you and your family as well Joey. You certainly deserve it!
