Now you see why we’re looking to fly south? This type of winter is for the …. heck, this type of winter ain’t for anyone.
While most of the businesses in the area are closing down due to the ice storm and lettting their employees stay home, I am doing the opposite. I spent most of the day yesterday, calling employees IN, telling them to plan to spend the weekend here so that I know our departments are covered. Here. At the hotel. Where I’m spending my weekend too.
I love my job, but I hate staying in the hotel where I work. I’m uncomfortable letting employees and guests see me in unprofessional attire, and I especially don’t like working out in front of them. I got up way early, before most of them started, to get in a quick workout and then stealthily snuck back to my room. I managed to avoid all but one employee and one guest, neither of whom were awake enough to know I was me.
But now it’s 7:30am and I’m ready for a nap.
Picking out my room last night was difficult too. We have too many frequent guests who like certain rooms, and I didn’t feel comfortable sleeping in any of “their” beds. I finally decided on a room where I can go out my back door and be right at the fitness center. It’s at the back of the hotel, pretty isolated. And I don’t know any of the guests who’ve slept here in the past.
I can make this work for the weekend, but my desire to move to Florida has increased ten-fold. I gotta make this dream a reality soon. I just gotta.

Well, maybe this was just the universe giving you a final little push!
Having had to live at a hotel a few times in my hoteling days, you’re right. it’s weird to try to live where you work and for guests to see you with your (off-duty) clothes on. Almost makes you want to venture out into the ice storm. But don’t!

I didn’t!
But I was so ready to go home after the 3rd day. I love my job, but even I don’t want to be there ALL the time.
And yes, it’s about this time of year we become pretty desperate to get outa here. In fact, I just booked our flight down to Florida. It’s not til March, but at least now I have something to look forward to. 🙂

So none of your guests saw you and said “Hey I didn’t recognise you with your clothes on?” as you were caught in your dressing gown filling up your ice bucket?
And this is why we bought a house in Arizona. The weather.

The thought of a guest seeing me in my dressing gown while filling up my ice bucket cracks me up, but also stresses me out. And wait a minute… ALL my guests better recognize me with my clothes on. I provide great service, but not THAT great. 😉
I’m tired of wanting to escape the winters. I’m ready to live somewhere that’s warm all the time. I find it so hard to come back if I just go for a little while.

I always thing about people like you when I’m griping about having to commute in severe winter weather. There are those who don’t have the option to work from home or take a day off. People like you make the rest of our lives easier. So thank you!
I hope Florida becomes a reality for you soon!

We offer a pretty cheap snow rate to many of the businesses around so that they don’t have to travel home, and can make it to work the next morning with no trouble. It’s kinda fun to be snowed in together.
But I’d much rather be sittin’ on a beach….

I agree with Tee. Especially as someone who is not employed. I “almost” feel guilty. 🙂 However, thinking about getting back out there; thankfully, I don’t live in the ice belt.
I SO admire your work ethic!

My work ethic is paying off! Someday I’ll make the time to tell about it here. 🙂

It’ll make a great series of stories. I’m holding you to it. 😊
