Happy Days

22 Jun

For the first time in 3 weeks I had a weekend! Of course, weekend in hotel terms means I had two days off in a row – Wednesday and Thursday to be exact.

And these two days have been glorious!

I cleaned a few bathrooms, washed a few loads of clothes….

went for a short motorcycle ride….

and baked!

The head housekeeper at the hotel had asked me to bake cupcakes for her grandson’s 7th birthday party.  She told me she likes strawberry cakes, but gave me very little to go on about what he likes. She did mention he saw Madagascar in the theater recently.

Not being too keen on decorating, I searched the internet for ideas.

I found a Nutter Butter Giraffe and  an Oreo penguin.

They don’t look exactly like the Madagascar animals, but I thought all young kids love peanut butter and Oreos, so I made the cupcakes match the animals.

Nutter Butter Cupcake with Peanut Butter Icing

Oreo Cupcake with Oreo Cream Cheese Icing

I baked the cakes on Wednesday, and made the decorations on Thursday. Smart decision!  It took me almost 4 hours to make the frosting, the animals, and then assemble them together.

But finally, they were ready for delivery….

And since she mentioned she likes strawberry, I gave the strawberry cakes another shot. (Remember all the ones I threw in the trash last time?)

Much better success this time!

Strawberry Sundae Cupcake

I baked one in a sundae glass for the birthday boy, but the rest were baked in cupcake liners.  And NO burned bottoms!

As much fun as the baking and decorating turned out to be….

it still wasn’t the best part of my weekend.

The best part?

I GOT MY COMPUTER BACK!!

It’s not 100% yet, as the battery is not charging, but at least I have it back.  AND!  Nothing was lost on it!  I have all my documents, all my favorites, all my everything!

So I’m out of the office and back on my couch, typing on the keyboard I am so familiar with.

Happy Days are Here Again!

🙂

The cupcakes are adorable! You’re going to end up making a living at this, I just know it!

So glad you enjoyed your weekend and even happier for you that you got your laptop back! (Now go get that external hard drive!) 😉

When I brought them into work today, the head housekeeper ranted and raved so much and was going to tell all her friends…. I’m a little nervous. It takes so much time – and I have very little.
On the other hand, I DO enjoy it. Especially the part where I’m searching for ideas. My hubby keeps telling me, “Be careful what you wish for…..”

Welcome back. We’ve missed your updates.

The cupcakes are absolutely great. I have a weakness for nutter butters so you had me from the start. I definitely want you to cater my next birthday party. Especially if you can do the cupcakes (margarita flavored, please).

I still think the margarita cupcakes were my BEST EVER. Really! I’d love to make those again, but I’m not sure I’d make it to Texas with any of them left. 🙂
I’m happy to be back – with my own computer – set just the way I like it! It’s charging now too! Just popped the battery out and put it back in and voila!
Now I just gotta get that external hard drive….

I am so happy for you! You have it back…finnally! Those cupcakes must have been such a succes at the birthday party. Everything a kid love, cupcake + cookie on top + animal shape 🙂 Almost to cute to eat but I would still eat one…at least 😉 What are the eyes made of? Is it icing or candy?

They were adorable! I’ll find out on Sunday if they were a hit at the party. “Grandma” sure thought they would be!
The eyes are little candies that I found at the store… thank goodness because I was wondering how I would make them.

Good for you, I have no clue yet as to when my new monitor is going to arrive, so I might not be able to blog anything this weekend, unless I do it at Ronny’s. And those cupcakes look devilishly delicious. 😉

I can’t wait for you to get your new monitor. It’s so hard not to have access to your own computer. :/
I was happy that the cupcakes were for someone else, otherwise I’d have been tempted to eat all the oreo ones. Mmmmm….

The cakes are great, I am sure the kids loved them.

Shame about the battery, but it is good that you have the laptop back. I could tell straight away that you were happier 🙂

As soon as I found out it was fixed, I was out the door to get it! This morning, I popped the battery out and back in again, and it worked! Not sure what was up with that, but I’m not questioning it. I’m definitely a much happier girl now! 🙂

What great treats! Do those giraffes have cheerios for nostrils?! Happy for you and the computer. Our laptop is a sick puppy.

Thank you! It was definitely fun, but took a lot of my time. No worries though. The housework has waited this long… what’s a few more weeks? lol
