He’s the new 25 (twice)

22 Jan

He says I can’t make a big deal of this, so keep your excitement down.

My hubby turned 50 today!

I’m following his wishes and am quite happy to.  I don’t want to arrange a big celebration as much as he doesn’t want to have one.  Instead, I baked his favorite dessert, stocked the freezer with ice cream, and arranged a basket full of his favorite things.  This should keep him content until we take our (quickly becoming) annual trip to Florida.

All this doesn’t mean, of course, that I don’t celebrate him.  Not only does he do most of the laundry, keep the kids on track, and love me unconditionally, but he eats the bad bananas, and warms my side of the bed, and doesn’t complain about my lack of culinary, housekeeping, and socializing skills.  Seriously, what more could a girl ask for.

Except maybe that he returns the favor when I turn 50.  He’s got 5 years to plan for the nothing that I want him to do for me.  Perhaps by then, we’ll be living in Florida which will be celebration enough.  Well, that and a bowl of ice cream with candy corn and peanuts on the side…

But for now, it’s his day.  Apple cobbler, a bag of pistachios, a bottle of rum and a Keep Calm Chive On shirt is more his style.

Happy 50th to him! Sounds like a great way to not celebrate!

I went to work right after he opened his basket. So, yeah, no celebration at all. 🙂

Well Happy Birthday to ‘im! What a catch! We are quite the non-celebrators ourselves, so I understand the fave foods in lieu of hoopla. I also noticed a little bit that your hubby is younger than I am, to not be spoken of again…

Nope. Nada. Not speaking any more of it…
(I’m guessing you feel younger though)

Happy Birthday to your hubby. He sounds like he’s pretty good to you, so it’s nice of you to honor his wishes and not really celebrate.

p.s. I find it hard to believe you’re lacking in culinary skills! I KNOW you know you’re way around the kitchen!

He’s such a great guy! We’re going out to dinner this weekend with some friends, and we’ll let him decide where.
I can make a mean cupcake, and I LOVE to make frosting, but they aren’t dinner. Well, they are… but they shouldn’t be! If my family wants a real meal, they’re on their own.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but when you hit 50 body parts start acting up. When you hit 60, they start falling off and you must pull a little red wagon behind you to put all the spare parts into.

He can definitely vouch for that. In fact, he’ll say it started long before 50. I’m going to keep the bit about being 60 to myself for awhile. No need to depress him further.

He IS a keeper! You should see the bananas he’ll choke down so I can enjoy the yellow ones. 🙂
Thanks for the birthday and New Year wishes! Haven’t heard from you in a while. Hope your family is having a terrific start to 2015!

Definitely a keeper. It’s hard to find those low maintenance, self cleaning, bed warming, banana eating models anymore. Most of the ones out there now come with all sorts of problems/flaws – bald tires, poor mileage, leaking rear ends and way too much baggage. Happy Birthday to him! Hope you guys have a nice, quiet celebration this weekend. I would say to get the bikes out for a spin but it is probably a bit frosty for that right now.

      bald tires… leaking rear ends… I’m crackin’ up! 🙂
We had a great day today. Celebrated with a few good friends and with some great BBQ. Our temps were actually in the upper 40s today. Quite balmy, but too cold for the bikes. (Which are still on the selling block. Want them?)

The longer we’re married, the more I see his uses. I think I’ll keep him. 🙂
