It Wasn’t the End of the World

22 Dec

I’m so glad the world didn’t end today.

For one, I wouldn’t have been able to finish these.

Melting Snowmen

Melting Snowmen

Or these.

North Pole Cupcakes

North Pole Cupcakes

I baked the cookies and cupcakes yesterday, but decorating them today was SO. MUCH. FUN.

This was also the day our family had planned our annual Christmas Family Outing. Originally, we were going to go out for lunch, then hit the ice skating rink.  But it was so cold and windy, and Amp has been quite sick, so we opted for Plan B.

Getting there was going to be a challenge.  Since we rarely travel together, none of us have cars big enough for six people.  It was decided the girls would take the Mustang and the boys, the Acura, and off we went.

We arrived together at Peel, a wood-fired pizza joint, for our lunch.

We ordered four different types of pizza and two types of wings, and managed to finish most of it.

Why has it taken us so long to try wood-fired pizza?

With full bellies, we headed off to Edison’s Entertainment Complex.

And boy were we entertained!

Having never played Laser Tag before, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  Two rounds of 15 minutes didn’t sound like much, so we opted for the unlimited Laser Tag and Bowling package.

I’m so glad we did!  We played three rounds in a row before we were all so incredibly sweaty and thirsty that we needed a break.

We hit the bar for some waters and headed straight back for some more rounds. By this time, our legs were wobbly from crouching, our clothes and hair were wet with sweat, but we continued on, fighting for our respective territories.

Caught!

Caught!

We played round after round until the little kids showed up.  I’m all for them having fun too, but it changes the game when you have little ones who just follow you around and shoot you as soon as your lights go back on.  And there were so many of them, that we always had someone just following us. No chance to strategize, no chance to sneak up on the opponents, no chance to duck behind walls.

We endured them for a few rounds, then decided it was time to bowl.

Most of us are used to our own bowling balls and shoes, so it was fun trying to find a ball with finger holes that fit somewhat close.

ShadowRun300

ShadowRun300? Not today.

Amp

Amp did fairly well considering his thumb didn’t fit.

Chip

Chip had a case of sticky thumb and shoes.

Mario

Mario was the professional today and beat us all.

Link

After tripping over a little kid in laser tag, Link fought through the pain in his knee so as not to miss out.

So yeah, I’m grateful we were able to have this day.  And if the Mayan’s were off by a day, and the world ends tomorrow…..

at least I won’t have to go back to work.

I’d like to take credit, but my inspiration came from Pinterest. I DID come up with a different idea on my own today while making chocolate bark, and it worked! I poured the mix into an open cookie cutter that I sprayed with non-stick spray, and let it set inside til it hardened. It popped right out, so I have a star-shaped piece of bark. I may have to try it again to see if it was just a fluke. 🙂

I have played laser tag a few times and you are right about the little ones. Looks like a great day.

If it wasn’t for the little ones, we may never have quit. It WAS a great day!

We took well over 100 pictures that day. So. Fun. That’s all I can say. 🙂
A pic on Pinterest inspired me, so I suppose I’m the middle man by inspiring you. I have a feeling yours will be much cuter… after all, you can make flan. 🙂 lol (I WILL try that recipe, but it’ll have to be in January)

Aww… thanks! I literally grinned the whole time I was making them. Each one had their own personality, and I never knew how they were going to turn out. I can’t wait to make more!

Yay for plan B! (or is it plan C, considering the whole Mayan thing?)
Looks like good times with the family. Laser tag is not nearly as messy as paintball!! And I love the cookies and cupcakes. *almost* too cute to eat!

      Yeah – I guess it was plan C. 🙂
I’ve never desired to play paint ball – I’ve heard it hurts. Lasers are pain free, but boy are my legs killing me today from all the crouching, and running while crouched.
I felt a little sadness when one of my coworkers took my favorite melted snowman. I had to remind myself I made them for others to enjoy. *sniff*

Oh my gosh, those cookies and cupcakes are SO cute! Kacey saw cookies like yours on Pinterest and we talked about how cute they were, but that’s as far as we got. Maybe we’ll actually make them next year.

Your family day sounds like such fun. And what a happy, good looking family you have. So glad you had this time to spend together and enjoy one another. (Mario reminds me so much of my Kacey. I’ll bet they’ve got very similar personalities.)

Jake works in a place that offers everything you’ve described here. Were you at Pinz?

      I LOVE Pinterest. That’s where I got my idea… 😉
I see similarities between Mario and Kacey as well. But tell me, did she call you “Motherrrr….” at 14? Because I’m really hoping there comes a day I don’t embarrass her. lol
I didn’t know Jake worked in a place like that! I knew it was a bowling center, but not the whole shebang. It takes a huge amount of patience and multi-tasking to work there. I’m impressed! It’s gotta be a fun place to work! Ours is called Edison’s, but there are some Brunswick Zones around too. Haven’t heard of Pinz…. Have you ever played there?

Dang. Was looking forward to that end of the world thing so I wouldn’t have to pay off my bills and go back to work. Darn those Mayans. They should of stuck with the Farmer’s Almanac.

Plan B sounded like a definite winner! Great idea for a family gathering. Pizza and laser tag. Nice combination. I’ve done a few of those indoor tag games and they can definitely be fun/addictive. We have a few places down here that have an entire complex of bowling, laser tag, indoor glow golf, arcade machines, rock climbing, etc. And the cookies look incredible.

I was most disappointed about having to actually go Christmas shopping. I’ve literally done all my shopping the last two days. And I have only one day to get them wrapped. Darn Mayans…
But, I’m really glad I didn’t miss out on our family day! I’m only sorry now that ours didn’t have rock climbing or glow golf. We may have to search one out for next year!
